Maroun Matar is the founder of Dar Al Huqooq. He is licensed to appear and represent clients before all Dubai and UAE courts, Dubai International Financial Centre courts and Lebanese courts. Mr. Matar has been practicing law in the UAE for more than 30 years with extensive experience in all aspects of civil, commercial, criminal, insurance, real estate and arbitration law as well as in finance, oil and gas, cross-borders M &As and JVs in the MENA region.
Dar Al-Huqooq led by Advocate Maroun Matar has represented governments, multinational companies and high-net-worth individuals in many complex contentious and non-contentious cases:
In 1994, represented the Emirate of Fujairah before The
International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds (IOPC Funds) in one of the major
oil spill disputes in the region where monetary claims amounted to more than
USD 200 million.
In 2000, represented Maritime Industrial Services Co
Ltd (MIS) in arbitration proceedings before the LCIA to claim USD 100 Million
against a multi-national oil and gas company concerning rig services, which
lead to the signing of a settlement agreement that was very satisfactory to the
client.
In 2005, represented MIS in commencement of
arbitration proceedings before DIFC/LCIA against a multi-national company that
owns jack up rigs concerning rigs construction, to claim the amount of USD 117
million. The dispute was resolved amicably to the satisfaction of the client.
In 2009, instituted arbitration proceedings against
two Qatari governmental petroleum companies before the Courts of Qatar
concerning the execution of a lump sum EPIC turnkey contract to claim USD 90
million that resulted in a settlement agreement in favour of the client.
In
2013, represented a regional media company against a governmental channel in
litigation case involving USD 10 Million of monetary claims.
